The state’s largest food drive gets underway today (FRI). This year, Minnesota FoodShare’s goal is to raise one-million dollars to give directly to the state’s 300 local food shelves. 2012 was another record year for food shelf use across Minnesota. Minnesota FoodShare’s Sara Nelson-Pallmeyer says there were over three-million visits to the state’s food shelves. The March Minnesota FoodShare Campaign, the only food-and-fund drive of its kind, raises more than half the food distributed in the state each year, and every dollar donated during the campaign goes directly to food shelves. Boy Scout troops in New Ulm and many other communities across the state will be holding their annual food drive later this month as well.
