As the state digs out from another winter storm, utility companies are urging Minnesotans to keep their natural gas meters free of ice and snow. The meter’s regulator vent is vulnerable to plugging, which could lead to a dangerous natural gas buildup inside a home or other building. Officials recommend customers very gently remove snow or ice from the gas meter and any associated piping, and from the roof-line above the meter. Also be sure melting snow or ice is not dripping on the meter. If you have questions, contact your utility.
