A Minnesota Lake Man is in custody following a high-speed car chase with police in Mankato early Sunday morning. Authorities spotted a vehicle allegedly driven by 22-year-old Thomas Karels hit a fixed object on North Riverfront Drive in Mankato at around 2:15am and leave the scene. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the ensuing chase reached speeds of up to 80 miles-per-hour on North Riverfront Drive before the driver lost control and went into a ditch just past the city limits. Karels was treated for minor injuries at the scene before being arrested. He’s facing charges of felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle, carrying a weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a revoked license, and driving under the influence.
