The Minnesota Golden Gopher men’s basketball team will be dancing this month. Minnesota grabbed the eleventh-seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament as the bracket was announced last night. The Gophers will take on sixth-seeded UCLA on Friday in Austin, Texas. The winner of that game will play on Sunday night against the winner of Friday’s other game between number-three seed Florida Gators and 14th-seed Northwestern State. Minnesota went 20-and-12 this season to earn its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010.
South Dakota State grabbed the 13th-seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament as the bracket was announced last night. The Jackrabbits will take on fourth-seeded Michigan in second round action on Friday. SDSU went 25-and-9 this season and won the Summit League Tournament title for the second straight year. The leading scorer for SDSU is St. Cloud native Nate Wolters.
Marquette earned the third-seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament as the bracket was announced last night. The Golden Eagles will take on 14th-seeded Davidson in round two action on Thursday. Marquette’s roster includes Golden Valley native Trent Lockett. Wisconsin earned a five-seed in the West and will battle 12th-seeded Ole Miss on Friday. Wisconsin’s roster includes Princeton native Jared Berggren and St. Paul native Mike Bruesewitz [[ BREWS-uh-witts ]].
The Gonzaga University men’s basketball team continued to make history Sunday. Ranked number-one in the nation, the Bulldogs earned the school’s first ever top seed in the NCAA Tournament. Netting the West Region’s top seed, the Zags will face 16-seed Southern University Thursday in Salt Lake City. Osseo native Sam Dower is a key reserve for the Bulldogs.
