The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team hits the court tonight in the NCAA tournament as they face UCLA. The Gophers will enter the tournament as an 11 seed looking to upset the sixth-seeded Bruins. Including the vacated appearances, this will be the Gophers 12th all-time trip to the big dance and third under head coach Tubby Smith. The Gophers come in with a respectable 20-and-9 record but will skid into the postseason tournament having lost three in a row including last week’s loss to Illinois in the first round of the Big 10 Tournament. The Gophers and UCLA take to the floor tonight at 8:57 local time from the Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
The University of Minnesota women’s hockey team looks to maintain perfection as they embark on the 2013 Frozen Four tonight at Ridder Arena. The Gophers are a perfect 39-0-and-0 on the season and are riding an NCAA record 47-game winning streak dating back to last season. The Gophers are just two wins away from becoming the first-ever undefeated team. Tonight they’ll face Boston College as they head to the Frozen Four for the third consecutive year. The Eagles are 27-6-and-3 and boast the second best offense in the nation behind Minnesota. Puck drops at 5 from Ridder.
