Gopher Men Crush UCLA, Former Gopher Dies, Women Are In Finals 23 Mar 13

Andre Hollins scored 28 points with nine rebounds and five assists to lead 11th-seeded Minnesota in an 83-63 win over sixth-seeded UCLA. Austin Hollins added 16 points while Trevor Mbakwe poured in nine points with 12 boards for the Golden Gophers. The Gophers will play third-seeded Florida tomorrow in Austin.

Former Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball star Ray Williams has died. The 58-year-old lost a battle with cancer yesterday. Williams stared for the Gophers in the 1970′s and went on to play in the NBA for the New York Knicks among other teams. He averaged 19 points and almost seven rebounds in his time with Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers women’s hockey team has advanced to a second straight national title game. The Gophers defeated Boston College 3-2 in overtime yesterday in the national semifinal. Minnesota is 40-and-0 with an NCAA record 48-game winning streak dating back to last season. The Gophers play Boston University for the title tomorrow.
