A man serving a 25-year prison sentence for the murder of a Mankato man in 2007 made an appearance in Blue Earth County Court on Thursday. 26-year-old Lionel Benavidez was convicted for the murder of 20-year-old Alberto Samilpa Jr near Windom in 2007. Samilpa was shot in the head four times after he reportedly broke the clutch on a Porsche that had been stolen from a rural Mankato home. Benavidez was in the Mankato courtroom on Thursday to face charges related to the theft of that car as well as four other felonies.
