A fire that destroyed a historic home near Kasota recently has been ruled accidental. Firefighters from North Mankato, St. Peter, Nicollet and Cleveland battled the blaze at the home of Ruth Dutler off Highway 22 in the bitter cold January 31st, but the building was a total loss. The investigation into the cause of the fire has now been completed, and the LeSueur County Sheriff’s Office says that a fireplace insert was to blame. The insert was apparently being used to heat the whole house. No one was injured in the fire, and authorities say that the investigation is now closed.
