A Bird Island man was sentenced to over 5 years in prison this week for stabbing a man in rural Spicer last year. 29-year-old Michael Jon Underland was sentenced to 68 months in the state prison in St. Cloud after being convicted of 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He had reportedly gone to a home in rural Spicer after bar closing time in February 2012 and stabbed the man in the abdomen after getting into an argument. Two different people witnessed the stabbing, and the victim required surgery. Underland was given credit for the 282 days he has already served in jail, and was also ordered to pay over $2,000 in fines and more than $500 in restitution.
