An historic bridge over the Blue Earth River near Amboy will be updated for modern traffic uses in the near future. The 112-year-old Dodd Ford Bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places, but it’s been closed for several years after being ruled unsafe for today’s heavier vehicles. But Blue Earth County is now working on a plan to update the bridge to modern weight limits, while also keeping the historic structure intact. County officials have been working with historic preservation groups and members of the Amboy community to develop a plan to give the bridge a 10-ton base, which would even make it useable for most farm equipment. The plan has reportedly been met favorably by all those involved, and the project is currently about 90% funded.
