The 23rd annual New Ulm Athena Award was presented to the Brown County Historical Society’s Darla Gebhard Wednesday morning. Gebhard has worked on numerous major exhibits in her 30 years with the historical society. She has also served on numerous city commissions and committees, is active with the Junior Pioneers and many other organizations, helped plan the events of the recent 150th anniversaries of New Ulm, Brown County and the Dakota War, and has mentored young women for many years. She was nominated for the Athena Award by Junior Pioneers President Lori Otis. The Athena Award is sponsored by the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce and Jensen Motors, and is presented annually to a woman in the community for her professional excellence, community service, and mentorship of other women. Gebhard will be honored during an Athena Award Luncheon in mid-April.
