A Winthrop man who pleaded guilty to stealing over $13,000 worth of corn from his employer last year was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 2 years of probation on Thursday. 35-year-old Kyle Norman Grams admitted to selling the corn to United Grain Systems in Winthrop under his own name on 2 different occasions last year. He received $5,700 the first time, but the second incident involved more than $7,500 and that money was withheld due to the suspicious nature of the transaction. The theft conviction in Sibley County Court was ruled a gross misdemeanor. In addition to the jail and probation time, Grams will also be required to remain law abiding, and must write a letter of apology. He had been sentenced to a year in jail and fined $3,000, but those will be stayed if all other conditions are met.
