St Thomas Wins MIAC Men’s Title 25 Feb 13

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Third-seeded Augsburg gave top-seeded St. Thomas all it could handle for the first 18 minutes of Sunday’s 2012-13 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men’s Basketball Championship game. However, the Tommies caught fire from the outside on their home floor in St. Paul and used their depth to wear down the Auggies in an impressive 92-65 win to capture their third-straight postseason title.

St Thomas, which improved to 26-1 with the win, claimed its seventh conference Playoff title in eight years and its 12th MIAC postseason title overall with Sunday’s win, and received the MIAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament. Augsburg, playing its third postseason game in five days, dropped to 21-7 with the loss, and will await Monday’s Selection Show to find out if it will join the Tommies in the national tournament field.
