Twins manager Ron Gardenhire says new pitcher Rafael Perez is an exciting prospect to have on the team. Perez was signed this off season as a free agent to possibly fortify the Twins left-handed pitching roster. He had only pitched in eight games last year due to injury and Gardenhire says he likes the young man’s attitude. The manager says the pitcher has a passion for the game that is bigger now that he’s missed time. The Twins open the spring training game schedule on Saturday against the Orioles in Sarasota. The team’s home spring training docket begins on Sunday in Fort Myers when the Rays and Twins play at Hammond Stadium.
