A convicted sex offender who was unable to find a home in the local area last year has now been released from state prison, but is still behind bars until he can find somewhere to live. Gregory Eugene Ward was released from the Lino Lakes prison earlier this week, but has been living in the Scott County Jail since then because offenders under Intensive Supervised Release cannot leave prison without a permanent address. Ward is a Level 3 sex offender – the most likely to re-offend. He has a history of sexual contact with female victims as young as 7-years-old. He had attempted to move to 3 different residences in Mankato last year, as well as a home near Kasota, but the offers were all rescinded. If Ward cannot find a home within the next few weeks, he will be sent back to prison.
