The New Ulm City Council will be considering an ordinance this (TUE) evening that would lay out the regulations for doing criminal history background checks on applicants for jobs with the city. Those who would be subject to background checks would include any full-time or part-time city employee, as well as volunteer firefighter and police reserve officer positions and anybody working with children or vulnerable adults. Applicants for a liquor license or housing assistance or rental housing administered by the City would also be potentially subject to background checks. The checks would not be mandatory, and written consent would be required. The New Ulm City Council meeting begins at 5pm today at New Ulm City Hall.
