The Minnesota House Transportation Policy Committee will be holding a hearing today (WED) concerning the expansion of Highway 14. This comes after business leaders and local government officials from around the area were in St. Paul last week to testify to a Senate committee on the need to expand the highway to 4 lanes from New Ulm to Mankato, and to include the project on the department of transportation’s 20-year plan. State Senator Gary Dahms says that the issue needs to stay on Mn/DOT’s radar. Bills are being considered in the House and Senate that would mandate that the Highway 14 expansion be included in Mn/DOT’s 20-year plan until the work is completed, and that designate the funding for the projects. Several local area officials will be testifying before the House committee on today, including New Ulm Mayor Bob Beussman, who also serves as the Vice President of the Highway 14 Coalition.
