The New Ulm City Council on Tuesday awarded the bid for the city’s Harman Park Accessibility and Renovation Project. The work will include adding handicap-accessible restrooms to the Harmann Park shelter and expanding and renovating the great room and concession stand. The project had been delayed last year when the 2 bids received came in over estimates. New Ulm Park and Rec Director Tom Schmitz says that some changes were made to reduce the project’s cost. Ericksen Construction of Sleepy Eye was the low bidder for the alternate design in the amount of $216,821. Work will get underway as soon as possible. In other business Tuesday, the council agreed to establish a Tax Increment Financing District for a proposed apartment complex on North Highland Avenue. The Winkelman Building Corporation’s “Skyline Terrace” housing project will consist of 35 apartments, with more possibly being added in the future. The Tax Increment Financing deal is for no more than 25 years and $450,000 in reimbursements.
