The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team got a buzzer-beating, game-winning shot from star player Rachel Banham of Lakeville last night at Ohio State. The Golden Gophers beat the Buckeyes 57-56 behind Banham’s 17 points. Micaella Riche [[ muh-KAYLA ruh-SHAY ]] also scored 17 points for the winning team. Ohio State’s Tayler Hill of Minneapolis scored 25 points, including 14-for-14 at the line. The Gophers led by six at halftime. Ohio State hit a shot with eight-seconds left to take a one-point lead, setting up Banham’s heroics. The Gophers are 16-and-11 overall and 5-and-8 in the Big Ten. Minnesota will host Purdue on Sunday.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s basketball team has the weekend off. They will return to action on Tuesday at home against Indiana. The Hoosiers also have the weekend off. The Gophers have lost two in-a-row and four of their last five following Wednesday’s 71-45 setback at 18th-ranked Ohio State. Minnesota sits at 18-and-9 on the season and 6-and-8 in the Big Ten.
