A 65-year-old Ceylon woman was killed in a head-on crash west of Fairmont Wednesday afternoon. Linda Hoppe reportedly lost control of her vehicle at around 3:20pm Wednesday on Martin County Road 26 and crashed into a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Ryan Johnson of Fairmont. Hoppe was pronounced dead at the scene, while Johnson was transported to the Fairmont Mayo Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say that the wind was blowing snow onto the roadway at the time, causing slick driving conditions. Rescue crews spent more than 3 hours at the scene of the crash just east of the ethanol plant near Welcome, and the road was closed in both directions for some time. The crash remains under investigation.
