Two people face criminal charges in McLeod County for an alleged check cashing scheme in which homeless people from the Twin Cities were used to cash thousands of dollars in fraudulent checks at a bank in Hutchinson last month. A total of 4 such checks were reportedly cashed at the Citizens Bank South Branch in Hutchinson on January 24th, allegedly netting Lee Dale Davis of Minneapolis and Juan Ramon Garcia of Milwaukee over $22,000. They’ve been charged with theft by false representation. Investigators say the 2 apparently asked homeless people if they wanted to make some money, and they and their valid ID’s were then used to cash the checks. The scheme was discovered when a teller at the bank’s Main Street location became suspicious of a check worth over $6,000 a man was trying to cash. Authorities are requesting arrest warrants on 2 additional suspects as well, and the investigation into the crimes continues.
