The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire at a Carver County dairy farm early Tuesday morning that killed around 70 calves and 13 cows. Belle Plaine Fire Chief Todd Otto says that they were able to save about a dozen calves, which are being watched closely due to exposure to smoke and heat. Workers at Halquist Farms in San Francisco Township discovered the building engulfed in flames when they arrived to milk the cows. The owners are reportedly on vacation. The preliminary investigation has determined that the cause of the fire was an electrical issue. Damage estimates are upwards of $200,000.
