A Bird Island man accused of stabbing a man in the abdomen at a residence in rural Spicer last year has been found guilty after a 1-day jury trial this week. 29-year-old Michael Jon Underland was found guilty of 2nd and 3rd-degree assault for the February 2012 incident, and was ordered held in the Kandiyohi County Jail until his March 11th sentencing. The victim had suffered a single stab wound that required surgery after getting into an argument with Underland after he had gone to the rural Spicer home after bar closing time. The man told authorities that he had taken a knife away from Underland after they got into an argument, but they had another argument some time later, at which point Underland stabbed him with a different knife. Two people reportedly witnessed the stabbing.
