Longtime local-area department store chain Dueber’s is closing all 9 of its stores throughout Minnesota. The first Dueber’s opened in 1946 in Waconia, and at its peak the company had stores in 28 communities. Longtime owner Church Dueber says there are many reasons for the closures, including the economy, one of their vendors going out of business, and the fact that he is nearing retirement age. Dueber’s stores that are closing include in: Fairfax, Gaylord, Glencoe, Madelia, Springfield, St. James, Tracy, Waconia and Winsted. The Dueber’s office and warehouse facility in Norwood Young America is also closing. Going-Out-Of-Business sales are underway, and all of the stores are expected to be closed for good by the end of June.
