A former patient at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center has been sentenced to over 4 years in prison for assaulting staff members at the hospital. 26-year-old Michael John Paul pleaded guilty last month to assaulting two security officers and a nurse during three separate incidents, and was sentenced to 50 months in prison on Tuesday. He had been placed in the Security Hospital after being found to be mentally ill and dangerous, and was placed in seclusion after he kneed one security officer and attempted to stab another with a pen. While in seclusion, he assaulted a nurse who brought him medication also, and another assault charge was filed after he punched a security officer in the face. He could earn supervised release from prison after 33 months with good behavior.
