Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, and local health officials are encouraging you to test your home. The Department of Health’s Andrew Gilbert says that radon is colorless, odorless and tasteless, so the only way for homeowners to know if their home has radon is to test for it. Free radon test kits are being offered on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Brown-Nicollet Environmental Health office in St. Peter, at the Brown County Public Health office in New Ulm, and at the Sleepy Eye and Springfield City Offices. Discounted kits can be purchased online as well at www.radon.com.
