The investigation into the cause of a major fire at an apartment complex in Redwood Falls continues, and one person has died from injuries sustained in the fire. The Redwood Falls Fire Department responded to the fire at Lakeside Manor apartments Thursday evening, and during a search of the building 72-year-old Gene Gilland was found unresponsive in his apartment. He was transported to the Redwood Area Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from causes related to the fire. The apartments remain uninhabitable at this time, and the fire displaced 57 residents. Nearly a dozen Red Cross workers responded to the scene Thursday night to help with shelter and medications, and continued to work with the individual residents on Friday to assess their needs. The Red Cross and the Redwood Area Communities Foundation are accepting donations for residents impacted by the fire.
