One Dead After Police Standoff 18 Jan 13

One person is dead after a standoff with police in North Mankato Thursday ended with over a dozen shots being fired. The name of the person killed has not been released at this time, and North Mankato Police Chief Chris Boyer says that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will conduct the investigation into the incident. Tactical Response Team officers with assault rifles had surrounded the home at Lee Boulevard and Lor Ray Drive before noon for what was called a “High Risk Welfare Check.” The roads in that area were closed during the standoff, and nearby schools instituted lockdown procedures. The shots were fired after about 3 hours at around 2pm shortly after authorities entered the home. After the shots were heard an ambulance left the scene with a body. The property is reportedly owned by a 83-year-old man
