Eight people remain in custody and two were released for what officials called “humanitarian reasons” after a sweep Tuesday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Sparboe Farms in Litchfield — one of the nation’s leading egg producers. An immigration spokesperson says it’s part of a larger criminal investigation, but did not provide any additional information. Sparboe has also been a focus of animal rights activists, who released a video about a year ago showing conditions in crowded hen cages. It prompted Target and McDonald’s to drop Sparboe as a supplier.
