A home near Henderson is a total loss following a fire Sunday afternoon. Several area fire departments battled the blaze at the Mark Neils home between Henderson and Belle Plaine, including crews from Henderson and Belle Plaine, as well as Gaylord, Green Isle and Hamburg. The fire was reported at just before 2pm, and is believed to have been started by a wood stove next to a mattress. The home was already completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene and is no longer habitable. Neils was the only person living at the residence at the time, and was not injured. He is being assisted by the Red Cross. An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
