Gopher Women Lose, Hockey Teams Highly Rated 29 Jan 13

The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team lost a game to Illinois last night 91-86. Gopher star guard Rachel Banham of Lakeville netted 37 points in the defeat, moving into the one-thousand-point club for her career. The sophomore playmaker became the 21st player in Gopher women’s program history to surpass one-thousand points, and the third fastest. The Gophers dropped to 13-and-8 overall and 2-and-5 in the Big Ten. Minnesota hosts Michigan on Thursday night.

The Golden Gopher men’s and women’s hockey teams continue to each be ranked number one in the nation in the USCHO.com poll. The St. Cloud State men moved up four spots to number 12 this week, while Minnesota State-Mankato is 15th. Minnesota-Duluth is ranked tenth in the women’s survey. Gustavus Adolphus is ranked number two in this week’s NCAA Division Three women’s poll.
