A rural Sleepy Eye family is grieving the loss of their small dairy operation, and a fund has now been set up to help with cleanup costs. Three fire departments battled the fast-moving fire that destroyed the dairy barn of Ben and Genny Fischer last Wednesday. The Fischers lost around 20 milk cows, a calf and all their milking equipment in the blaze. A kerosene heater reportedly started straw in the barn on fire but the official cause is still under investigation. A fund has been set up at Southpoint Federal Credit Union in Sleepy Eye to help with cleanup costs, and any excess funds will be donated to the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association.
