A former Minnesota Senate staffer fired over an affair with the senate majority leader has been critically injured in a car crash. A 2004 Subaru Forester driven by 39-year-old Michael Brodkorb of Eagan struck the wall of a bridge along Interstate 35E in Mendota Heights Wednesday night and came to rest against a concrete median barrier. The State Patrol says that alcohol was detected in his system, and Brodkorb was not wearing a seat belt. He is in critical condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Brodkorb was an aide to Senate Republicans and filed a lawsuit last year after he was fired over his affair with then-Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch. Brodkorb alleges he was a victim of discrimination because of his gender, and that his personal privacy was violated.
