Democrats in District 19A on Saturday chose a candidate to replace former State Representative Terry Morrow. A Special Election to fill the empty seat is being held on February 12th, and the endorsed DFL candidate for the seat is MSU-Mankato Professor Clark Johnson. He was chosen after 3 hours and 4 rounds of voting. Johnson says that his number one goal if elected would be to help create a stable, long-term budget. Johnson faced off against 3 other candidates for the DFL endorsement, and despite him winning the endorsement there will need to be a Primary Election because the deadline to withdraw came before the endorsement convention. That election will take place January 29th, but the other Democrats in the race have pledged to honor the endorsement process. The DFL candidate will face off against Republican Allen Quist and the Independence Party’s Tim Gieseke in the February 12th election.
