A juvenile from Lafayette was hospitalized Friday night after his car broke through the ice on Lake Hanska. It happened at around 11:40pm. The juvenile had driven his car onto the lake from the landing known as Geiger Point, and then drove east into an area of thin ice near Godahl Landing. The area was marked with signs warning of thin ice due to an aeration system. The driver was able to walk to a nearby fish house for assistance after the car broke through the ice, and the occupants administered first aid and called 911. The driver was alone in the car, and was transported to the New Ulm Medical Center to be checked out. He suffered no apparent injuries and was examined and released. The accident remains under investigation.
