An Austin couple are in custody in Blue Earth County following a drug sting involving more than a half pound of methamphetamine. The deal was set up by a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension undercover agent who had purchased meth on 3 previous occasions from 57-year-old Reynaldo Rivera Jr and 46-year-old Josefina Villa. The latest deal was again set to take place in the parking lot of Mankato’s River Hills Mall, but the suspects apparently ran out of gas on their way to Mankato, so the deal allegedly took place along the side of Highway 14 just east of Eagle Lake. The 2 reportedly had 9 ounces of meth on them at the time, and a search of their home in Austin after their arrest uncovered another half-ounce of the drug, along with several fake ID’s. Rivera and Villa are each facing 4 counts of 1st-degree drug sales, and their bail has been set at $300,000.
