Torkelson Named Minority Leader 18 Dec 12

Local-area State Representative Paul Torkelson of Hanska has been named an assistant minority leader as part of the Republican leadership team for the Minnesota House of Representatives. The roster of minority leaders for the 2013 legislative session was announced on Monday. There are 5 others besides Torkelson. Minority leader legislators are charged with gathering votes for major bills, and can also serve as acting minority leader when the floor leader is not present. During the 2012 session, Torkelson served as vice chair of the House Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee. He was first elected to the House in 2008, and won re-election to a third term in November.
