A Redwood Falls man is in custody after allegedly leading authorities on a high-speed car chase that lasted for a total of 38-miles through Redwood and Renville Counties. A Renville County Sheriff’s Deputy had attempted to stop a pickup truck on County Road 5 just north of Franklin Monday afternoon at just before 3:30, but 47-year-old Brian Hester instead accelerated away from the deputy. Hester then reportedly continued on gravel roads into Morton and to the Birch Coulee Park and Beaver Falls areas, and also allegedly rammed a squad car during the pursuit. Officers were able to slow Hester down with “Stop Sticks” as he sped towards Redwood Falls on Highway 19, and he was forced into losing control of his truck just west of Redwood and was placed under arrest. No officers were injured in the pursuit, but Hester complained of arm pain and was hospitalized. He has since been released from the hospital, and is being held in the Renville County Jail. Several charges are pending, including attempted murder of a peace officer.
