The New Ulm Medical Center Board of Trustees honored this year’s recipient of the hospital’s “Legends of Medicine” award Thursday evening. Harold Fenske was responsible for organizing the merger between the Union Hospital and Loretta Hospital into the Sioux Valley Hospital, and served as the New Ulm Medical Center administrator in the 1980s. The Board of Trustees also received an update on plans to construct a new clinic addition to the hospital. The 12,000 square-foot, one-story addition will be built in the parking lot on the northwestern side of the hospital, and 96 new parking stalls would be built on the eastern end of the existing parking lot to make up lost stalls. The final details of the clinic’s use are not yet set, but it will reportedly serve a wide variety of general use needs. The $5-million project is expected to get underway in the Spring of 2013.
