Governor Dayton has named the head of Jefferson Bus Lines as the new commissioner of the state Transportation Department. Charlie Zelle will take over in January for Tom Sorel, who is heading into a new position at Triple-A Minneapolis. Zelle will retain the title of CEO of Jefferson, a regional bus company that operates in 13 states, but he will reportedly recuse himself from any MnDOT business involving the company. Zelle was one of two finalists for the job. The other was Bernie Arseneau, a veteran MnDOT engineer who is serving as acting commissioner until Zelle takes over on January 15th.
