Influenza has reached widespread levels in Minnesota, and the state saw its first death from the virus recently. Some school districts had to cancel classes recently as well due to flu outbreaks. A total of 47 schools across the state reported flu outbreaks the week before Christmas Break, which means at least 5% of students were out with the flu or flu-like symptoms. Brown County Public Health officials say that in addition to getting the seasonal flu vaccine, other ways to prevent contracting and spreading influenza include: covering your cough, washing your hands with warm water and soap, staying home if you aren’t feeling well, and keeping your children home if they are ill. The symptoms of the seasonal flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue.
