The investigation continues into the cause of a fatal house fire in New Ulm over the weekend. Firefighters were called out to the home on the Shag Road at about 5am Saturday and found 79-year-old Dorothy L. Nichols dead at the scene. She was the lone occupant of the home when the fire started in a garage that had been converted into a residence. The New Ulm Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Courtland firefighters, as well as the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and New Ulm Police. The fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
