Electoral College Meets Today 17 Dec 12

The presidential election is running its course in Minnesota, and across the nation, this week as members of the Electoral College gather in state Capitols to cast the final votes in the race. Minnesota’s 10 electoral votes are committed to Democratic President Barack Obama after he won the state’s popular vote in November. The Democratic slate of electors gathers in the Capitol Rotunda at noon amid pomp and ceremony. The 12th Amendment directs the electors chosen by the states to meet and vote for president and vice president. Obama is on course to get 332 votes to Republican Mitt Romney’s 206, barring defectors. Each state gets its equivalent in the 435-member House and the 100-member Senate. The District of Columbia gets the other three electors.
