Accountant Writes Phony Checks 13 Dec 12

A southern Minnesota accountant has been accused of stealing nearly half-a-million-dollars in order to build himself a lake home and pay off car loans. 39-year-old Ronald Schaeffer of Faribault allegedly wrote 127 phony checks to himself over a four-year span while working for Environmental Tillage Systems. Prosecutors say Schaeffer built a nice house in Elysian, but he could now end up with a 30-year prison sentence.
