The family of a Kasota man fatally shot by a Le Sueur County sheriff’s deputy in 2009 has agreed to a wrongful death settlement. 24-year-old Tyler Heilman was shot to death by Deputy Todd Waldron in July of 2009 after Waldron pulled Heilman over for driving erratically and a scuffle ensued. Waldron is said to have shot him 4 times in the chest after Heilman had put him in a headlock. Deputy Waldron was cleared of all wrongdoing in the shooting, but Heilman’s father filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the deputy and county, citing unreasonable deadly force. Under the settlement, the Heilman’s will receive $750,000 in exchange for no further legal action being taken.
