A St. James man was killed Thursday afternoon when his semi-truck hit a tractor north of Lakefield. 44-year-old Joseph Oliver was driving a Freightliner semi pulling a fully loaded anhydrous ammonia tanker trailer on Highway 86 in Jackson County when the collision occurred at 1pm Thursday. The State Patrol says that the semi and the tractor collided while turning or passing, and that the semi overturned in the ditch and Oliver was trapped. He was extricated by rescue crews, but was pronounced dead at the Windom Hospital. The driver of the tractor, which was also pulling an anhydrous tank, was 48-year-old Jeffrey Lange of Windom. He was not hurt.
