A former nurse from Nicollet accused of stealing morphine pills from a hospice patient was sentenced to 5 years of probation this week in Blue Earth County Court. 33-year-old Jennifer Laura Plooster, who now lives in Corsica, South Dakota, pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor theft and 5th-degree drug possession, and another possession charge was dismissed. A 180-day jail sentence was stayed, and she was also ordered to perform 80 hours of community work service. The theft of the around 80 morphine pills from the Good Samaritan Home in Mankato was first reported in September of 2011, but the investigation was delayed when Plooster checked herself into a treatment facility for opiate addiction. Her nursing license was suspended by the Minnesota Board of Nursing this past February.
