The 2012 New Ulm Medical Center Legend Award was presented to the New Ulm man who oversaw the transformation of healthcare delivery in the community during a special ceremony on Monday. Harold Fenske began his healthcare career in New Ulm as the Assistant Administrator at Union Hospital in 1969. He served as administrator until 1980, when the hospital merged with Loretto Hospital to create Sioux Valley Hospital. Fenske then took on the administrator role at the New Ulm Medical Clinic, where he worked until his retirement in 1987. The New Ulm Medical Center Legends Award program celebrates the legendary figures of the hospital’s past and present. Eligible recipients include past employees, volunteers, board members, and physicians.
