The 23rd annual New Ulm Parade of Lights takes place this Friday in downtown New Ulm, and there’s something new this year as well: Christkindlmarkt. The organizers say the idea came from a recent trip to Germany, where a Christkindlmarkt involves food, drink, and seasonal items from open-air stalls, accompanied by traditional singing and dancing. New Ulm Christkindlmarkt events include carriage rides, a living nativity, Elf School for the kids, a chance to meet Santa’s Reindeer, performances by the New Ulm Puppet Wagon, an Artisan Market, live music, food, and more. The opening ceremony takes place at Noon on Friday at the Chamber Office in downtown New Ulm, and features the first-ever New Ulm Christkind: Jenny Gag, the daughter of Steve and Michelle Gag. The Concord Singers will perform as well. Christkindlmarkt events then go until 8pm, with the Parade of Lights at 6pm. For more information you can visit the website www.newulmchristkindlmarkt.com.
