A tie vote in the Morton City Council election last week was settled with a coin flip this week. A recount took place at the Renville County Courthouse in Olivia, and resulted in no change in the numbers, with Sarah Luckhardt receiving 30 votes and Bernadine Rathman and Brandon Koerner tied with 29 each. So the tie needed to be broken by flipping a coin. Rathman chose Heads, and Renville County Auditor Larry Jacobs flipped the coin, with Brandon Koerner winning when it came up Tails. He and Luckhardt will begin their duties on the Morton City Council beginning January 1st.
